Decorex is a platform for both up and coming designers showing their latest collections and long-established companies – largely servicing the luxury interiors market.
The Decorex 2018 show preview guide picked out 4 key trends:
I saw evidence of all of the above at Decorex this year. Both lighting and rugs seemed to be in abundance. In both cases, definitely not just as functional items but statement pieces in their own right.
Of the lighting – so many gorgeous examples but three of my favourites at Decorex 2018: The glass pendants from Jonathan Rogers Glass which were simply stunning; Cold Harbour Lights – tapping into both art deco & jewel colour trends – these feather chandeliers appear to float, and lastly; Tigermoth Lighting whose pendants were both stunning & playful – I love the warm light they cast.
This chair from Timerous Beasties actually glowed! A very colourful stand from Judeco – all together a bit much for me but so many beautiful statement pieces that, used individually, could create a pop of colour or statement piece in a scheme. The Sweetpea & Willow stand – not art deco but definitely channelling the vibe with emerald greens and brass.
With so much bright colour and luxury surfaces – from velvets, mirrored surfaces to shiny metallic it was quite overwhelming to the senses.
I found the more scandi inspired Decorex stands – and those pictured below – a welcome respite from all the colour. I adored the simple aesthetic of the beautiful products. This desk and bench (which my dodgy photography skills definitely don’t accurately represent) from Arts & Crafts inspired Sebastian Cox and THE MOST GORGEOUS of throws and cushions from Camilla Thomas.
Last word has to go to the new Villa Nova picture book collection. Two years in the making it is an absolute joy. Villa Nova collaborated with 3 children’s picture book illustrators – Frann Preston-Gannon, Christopher Corr and Yuval Zommer – and the results are enchanting – and not just for children! The collection also has wallpaper, stickers, wall murals, cushions, rugs and trimmings to coordinate. If you have a nursery, playroom or even a boot-room where a playful print would work then take a look at these wonderful collections.
