Lack of storage is a common complaint for many home owners. We all want our homes to work like clockwork and be easy to keep clean and tidy - but how do you achieve this? Clever storage ideas will make your life easier and could save you both time and money. How often have you bought a replacement for a lost item only to find the original days or weeks later? And of course, you can’t put a price on the lost hours spent searching for elusive items.
We might be moving into a phase of easing out of lock-down but, for a lot of us, working from home will continue for the foreseeable future. I'm so lucky to have a dedicated garden office which was completed just before we went into lockdown. I've been spending time moving in, decorating and getting it just so! I've designed lots of office spaces over the years - but designing and decorating my own office has given me extra focus on what you need to make it work. Here are my 6 must haves if you are considering a more permanent home working solution.
The first two weeks of lockdown I embraced with a flurry of excited activity. I was just moving in to my new home office in the garden #THEHIVE which as it happened was such great timing. I had a long list of jobs to do around the house which we’ve just finished renovating. At the same time, I got sucked into some sort of ‘skills-acquisition’ black hole. Loads of courses on writing an on-line course (something I have wanted to do forever), Live sessions on finding your tribe on instagram, what hashtags to use, how and when, how to write engaging content, video for Instagram, coaching masterclasses, Pinterest tips and tricks, Zoom calls on how to pivot your business, IGTV on flipping your business to on-line....
I signed up to them all - and then started to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. I spent the next week of isolation not doing very much other than worrying constantly that everyone else had attended all of the above sessions - and were now actually applying all of this new found knowledge to their sparkly-over-achieving-recently-flipped-now-online-business. I also assumed they were doing Joe Wicks' exercise class in the morning and baking banana bread in the afternoon. *Very large exhale.
It can be difficult to get organised if you don’t have the right sort or amount of storage in your home. If you are in your home more often than usual right now you could certainly be noticing the areas that aren't working for you! We all want our homes to work like clockwork and be easy to keep clean and tidy. Ultimately, this will make your life easier and could save you both time and money. How often have you bought a replacement for a lost item only to find the original days or weeks later? And of course, you can’t put a price on the lost hours spent searching for elusive items!
On 10th September 2019 Dulux announced their Colour of the Year 2020 as Tranquil Dawn.
Experts selected the soft green hue to embody the nation’s mood on the approach to the new decade. It reflects a growing desire to understand what it is to be human at a time when advances in technology are making us feel increasingly disconnected from each other. Tranquil Dawn has been variously described as a grey green, a hazy pale green and also hailed as the ‘new neutral’. It is certainly a delicate fluid shade that sits somewhere between green, grey and blue. As with all colour - it is not just the colour itself but those colours that are used with it which can greatly alter its impact and feel in a space.
Selling your home is about accentuating the best features of the house and minimising the less appealing features. Ideally, you want a look that is fresh and welcoming – but not taste specific – so that you can appeal to the widest audience possible. Buyers with varying tastes need to feel like they could make the home their own if they purchased it – they need to be able to visualise themselves living there. As such you are selling a lifestyle – a glimpse of what their life would be like living in your home!
