Beautiful Bungalow
RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
The owners of a 50s bungalow wanted to renovate the whole building and bring it up to date. They had a lot of existing furnishings they wanted to use in their new home, so the scheme needed to incorporate these pieces - but feel updated and contemporary. Overall they wanted a light and airy space, that was calming and soothing to live in.
I chose pale off-whites and neutrals for the walls to meet their need for a home that was light and bright. I introduced warm oak floors and doors to balance out the off-whites and to stop the space feeling clinical. Pattern and texture were introduced in the fabrics for curtains in the living room, again using a neutral background to complement the floral fabric on their existing sofas.
The use of a feature accent tile in the en-suite bathroom helped to give the monochrome scheme some interest whilst staying sleek and modern. The family bathroom used a warmer neutral tile and accents of blue in towels, accessories and the blind.
The entrance hall provides the greatest contrast - and shows it is possible to combine old and new. A modern glass framed lobby with geometric cushions on a handy bench, for taking shoes on and off, gives way to the inner hall with a grandfather clock, antique chair and vintage posters.
